The timing belt broke while my husband was driving. The car acted like it was out of gas and would not start back. It did not make a sound when it broke. My car runs extremely quiet so he would have heard any noise that it would have made. My question is: Would it smack a valve? We have called numerous parts stores and nobody has been able to answer that question for us. That is why I have turned to you for help. Thank you

Parts store are NOT good info for mechanical questions they just sell parts. Yours is a non interference motor which means the valves do not hit the pistons. Have or put in a timing belt KIT which may include a water pump you do this as to not have to tear it down twice or three times for other parts going bad. Also timing belts should be checked at 60K because it's wear part and replaced at 90k

No. It shouldn't have smacked a valve. It's non-interference.
