Make sure the coolant is full, loosen the return heater core hose and start the engine with the heater on high. Allow air to exit and coolant to come out.

Are you getting any heat from the unit?

Yes it works sometimes my heater gets really hot but I never can get it to go at a normal temperature it's either to hot or too cold but could their be another problem with it instead of the heater core making my heat jump from hot to cold and never normal temperature

Usually, when there is an air block in the heater core, you don't get heat. So, I don;'t think that is the issue. Have you checked the thermostat? When does this happen, at any speed, in town driving, highway driving? Have you confirmed that not only the over flow jug is full of coolant but also the radiator? Have you checked the fan clutch to make sure it is working?

After thought. When you say it gets real hot or real cold, do you mean the temp gauge drops off to 0? And then shows overheating? Has the vehicle ever truly overheated?
