The ECS light has come on my dash and I was wondering if there was a possible easy fix solution to the light coming on or whether it is safe to drive until I can afford to take it to the dealership?

To the best of my knowledge, ECS stands for Electronic Crash Sensor and not the emissions system. Have you had the computer scanned for trouble codes? Is the vehicle running any differently?

ECS is the emission control system which from what I gather from the book has something to do with the o2 sensors. The car has been running fine and no difference except maybe a slight increase in fuel consumption. I haven't taken into to have the codes checked yet as I live 60 km from the nearest ford dealership and am worried about driving it that far with the light on.

I hate to say it, but I need to know the trouble codes. Are there any nationally recognized parts stores near you?

Also, what has me confused is that if there is an emissions issue, the check engine light would come on to indicate a problem. Then, the computer could be scanned to determine what part of the emissions system is causing an issue.

Well from what I read that is what I thought also. But the only light on is the ECU warning light. I will take it to forward next week and have the codes sourced and hopefully they can work out is wrong. Wondering if the Australian released 2002 Ford Explorers ever got the recall work done that was necessary.

I just checked and there are no TSB or Recalls relating to ESC.

Once you get the code, let me know what they tell you. Hopefully, I can better direct you.
