What are the steps to replace an ignition switch on a 02 Dodge Ram Van 1500 with tilt wheel? I have the plastic covers off but still can't remove the switch.

Hello,

Start by disconnecting the battery which will cut the electrical so no short circuits can occur. Here are diagrams below to show you how to replace the ignition switch module. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Are you referring to the tumbler assembly or the electrical switch?

The ignition / starter switch. Got it done, but thanks anyway. The Haynes manual didn't have the correct switch for the 2002. It showed the old one that is directly under the lock cylinder instead of the one that is on the left side of the steering column. This is what made it very confusing.

I do appreciate the response though.

Once the trim covers are off the column, insert the key, then there's a 3/16" roll pin sticking up toward your face. If you look from next to the shift lever, that pin is at the 11:00 position next to the clear halo light ring. Push that roll pin in as far as it will go, (about 1/4" or less), then turn the key. I can never remember which position to turn it to so I just keep trying until the cylinder pops out from spring pressure.

When you put it back in, the roll pin will be pushed out when you turn the cylinder to the "crank" position.

What's the symptom?
