2002 Chrysler Sebring crank sensor

What causes crank sensor to turn off and on while key is turning?And I just replaced the crank sensor.

There are 2 parts to how this sensor works, there is the sensor and the tone wheel that switches the sensor to give the signal to the ECU, if you are having a problem with a new sensor, make sure it is the correct one, it is fitted correctly and the electrical plug is clean and tight, if you are looking at live data you may be seeing the phasing which is the switching of the sensor what it is doing is telling the ecu where the crank shaft is at any one time, this is a switch type sensor so dont thing that you will see a constant signal from it.
