When my automatic 2001 Saturn SC2 shifts gears, it jerks. When I know it is about to shift, I take my foot off the gas for a couple of seconds - then it shifts gently. Then I accelerate again. Do I need a whole new transmission or what? It has been doing this for over a year now.

Thank you.

No codes. The check engine light hasn't come on -- except when the car overheats -- so I know it is working!

If the check engine light comes on there is codes have it scanned for codes and post the exact code numbers not the code descriptions. Also when it overheats is the radiator cooling fan on?how high is the temp gauge going when it overheats? Also it shifts hard into all the gears? Is that your concern?
