I have a 2001 Olds. Alero which is maintained regularly. Recently I hear lifter noise when I start the car but it stops when the engine warms up. When I check the oil it is full and clean. The car has 122,500 miles on it. What is causing the lifter noise?

I had same problem. At 124,000 miles. I changed oil, using Castrol GTX. I added one-half pint of ATF (automatic transmission fluid) to the engine oil. ATF is very high detergent and removes varnish coating of hydraulic lifters left by running engine oil too long before changing. Changed this oil after 1000 miles. Again, used Castrol GTX 10W30 and swapped one qt of oil with 1 qt of Rislone Engine Oil additive. Lifter noise gone. Has been for the last 20,000 miles. I add 1 qt of Rislone every oil change.
