Inhibitor relay replacement

I recently replaced the starter on my 2001 Nissan Maxima (it was verified no good). The stater motor manufacturer recommends you also replace the inhibitor relay at the same time. Why is this and is it necessary? Car seems to start fine now.

When a starter goes bad it may draw excessive current. Some of this current passes through the relay and can severely weaken it.
