I have a 2001 Mazda series pickup. Two wheel drive, auto 3 litre, app. 100,000. The truck has a high level of fuel consumption, but more disturbing is the lack of power at highway speeds. On a normal incline the truck has difficulty maintaining normal operating speeds. Engine has been regularly serviced by dealer.

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.

You shoud check the rubber elbo where the pvc valve is connected it could have a crack on the back side causing a vaccum leak and making the engine run rough all the time. I had the same symptoms brought it to the dealer and they said cant find anything wrong what a joke and waste of time. I shoud of check it myself. Ive been a mechanic for 45 years dealing with troubleshooting issues that the dealers cant find who knew
