2001 Ford Mondeo Estate Auto Petrol Loud Engine Noise

I have a 2001 Ford Monde Estate. 194K miles, Automatic and Petrol. This morning, a noise started in the engine. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like a loud lawnmower going. It sounds like its coming from the engine block itself, maybe from the fans. You can hear it at most revs, but it does't stop at all, even when not accelerating. I know I need it have it seen to, but would like an idea of the seriousness of the problem(s).

Lets look really hard at the exhaust manifold, loose or broken bolts may have it separating.

To sorta pin down the exact location quickly, you can shove a piece of 3-4 foot long 1/2-3/4 inch hose or tubing into your ear--use the other end like a stethoscope.

WATCH THOSE PESKY MOVING PARTS, THEY TEND TO MESS UP ONE'S DAY, WHEN THEY GRAB A HOLD OF YOU!

SO WATCH THAT LONG HIPPIE HAIR, DANGLING CLOTHING (ESPECIALLY SHIRT SLEEVES), AND THAT "PEACE SIGN" NECKLACE YOU'VE BEEN SPORTING SINCE '69! LOL. SERIOUSLY, BE CAUTIOUS UNDER THERE!

LET ME KNOW, IF THAT WAS IT.

How dangerous is it to drive around with this noise going? Its a weekend here and I need to get home from work today and then to the garage on Tuesday as Monday is a holiday. Could it be anything else?

WELL BIG GUY, IF YOU WILL INVESTIGATE IT---VERIFY IT IS THE EXHAUST MAKING THE RACKET---YOU WILL PROBABLY BE JUST FINE, JUST NOISY.

IF IT'S JUST LOOSE BOLTS/ NUTS, A FEW MINUTES WITH A WRENCH (OR SPANNER, IF YOU LIKE) IT MIGHT BE EZily CLOSED OFF SOME, OR EVEN COMPLETELY!

BUT. IF IT'S SOMETHING ELSE IS THE ISSUE, UNLESS YOU PIN IT DOWN AND CAN IDENTIFY IT.I CANNOT MAKE THE CALL, WHETHER IT'S SAFE OR NOT. SORRY! WISH I WAS THERE TOO, ON "HOLIDAY" MYSELF, WITH MY WILLYS JEEP!

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU FIND.A CHUNK OF GARDEN HOSE, MIGHT BE AN EZ ITEM TO FIND, TO HELP YOU FIND THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE "LAWN MOWER"
