2001 Dodge Ram v6 gear shifter is loose when you put it in gear it acts like its in neutral it won't engage you could put it in reverse you can still push the truck forward

Have an assistant move in gear and check linkage to see if it actually shifts into gear. Check fluid if you can then have a trans guy look at it.
