The inside of my 2001 malibu smells very, very strong gas when car is running thru the vents. Could this be an egr valve or not? My check engine light is on and the message was an egr valve. Also, is it safe for me to drive it home like that?

Someone at work looked at it and there is a small silver piece under hood to the right that looks damp. Can see gas actually dripping drop by drop, but that piece could be the problem but no one knows what that part is called. Do u have any idea what that part is? I dont know the other parts to describe to you but it is under the part u see when u open the hood. Have the look down and to the right.

What you see is the maybe the clip that holds the fuel line in place. If you smell gas very strong take this to a pro who can take care of the issure. Also just because the code said egr valve doesn't actually mean that is it. It could justneed cleaning. Never drive a vehicle that has strong gas smells as your car cold catch on fire.
