Hello. I have somewhat of a two part question. I purchased my 2000 saturn ls1 over summer in 2013 as a winter car. At the time of purchase I did not see any signs of the small somewhat strange issues I am having. I noticed out of the corner of my eye one day while driving that a light was going out on the center console when I applied the brakes. When I paid attention at the next stop I noticed that the radio back light was going out when the brakes were pressed. This radio back light is on as soon as I start the car and the clock displayed on the radios display although not lit is always on even when the car is off and locked / armed etc. My odometer back light also just went out on Monday. The correct numbers are still displayed and they change with miles driven they are just not backlit. I know now that these cars are prone to bcm issues however the second part of my question involves a minor accident. We had our first day of snow and ice here in buffalo ny two Saturdays ago and I rear ended a pick-up truck probably at about 20 mph. No major damage, hole in the bumper passenger headlight mounts broke although the headlight was intact. Could this minor collision have been enough shock to damage the bcm behind the glove box? I have read that shock can do them in but how much? I did not notice these little quirks with the car lighting until after the accident that's not to say they weren't there though and I just didn't notice. I have only been driving the car every day since that Saturday of the accident. In your opinion do these issues sound bcm related or should I begin diagnosing elsewhere? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

The odometer light sounds like a bad bulb I have replaced tons of them on those cars. The lights going out when stepping on the brakes sounds like you have the wrong brake light bulb in the rear brake light socket. Have seen that happen more once on those cars. They usually put a single element bulb where it should have a dual element bulb.
