transmition grinds and car wont move. from drive to 3rd, 2nd, then 1st the grind gets faster. Do i need to replace transmition?

Any grinding noise is a real concern, i feel that there has been a fairly major failure with in the transmission, i would get a mechanic to inspect this first hand and confirm my thoughts, you are probably up for a replacement transmission.
