Having trouble putting rear dum back on

That's an awful lot of detail to digest, so since I have to guess, you probably installed new shoes and you either didn't turn the automatic adjuster down all the way, or you have a link mispositioned between the two shoes. Be sure the shoe with the shorter lining is toward the front of the car, (if they're different). Check for free play in the parking brake lever. It's common to find a parking brake cable rusted in the partially-applied position. That will hold the rear shoe out too far. The clue is one or both shoes won't be touching the upper anchor pin.
