2000 Mercury Sable The Check Transaxle light comes on.

The transaxle light come on when I drive my car a long time in hot weather. Then when I turn off my car the light does not come on any more like it reset itself

I have a similar issue except that the light comes on after about 5 miles regardless of temperature. After it is on, there is a noticable change in shifting between gears; it is rough. Starting the car resets the light, shifting is smooth, and the same pattern occurs over again regardless of how long the car is off.

More thatn likely this transmission got to hot causeint the light to go on. But a trans guy should look at this to make sure there are not codes in it and it's probably due for a trans fluid change. Overheating will cause clutch/seal wear teh number 1 cause of transmission failure.
