I just did oil change used 10 40 and now check engine light comes on can that be because it calls out for 5 30, and I used to thick of oil and is that bad a mechanic told me its better for the engine?

It depends on the climate I wouldn't run that weight if it gets cold where you live.I would also have the car scanned for codes at the auto parts store. Let me know the exact code numbers not code descriptions?

If does get cold some days mornings or nights I wouldnt run that thick of oil
