As I was driving home, the steering gradually diminished in my ability to turn left. By the time I got home, the van would not turn left at all. It still turns right fine.

No, it is not stuck. The steering wheel turns freely to the right but when you turn the steering wheel back to the left, it ends with the tires straight. No noises and the fluid is fine.

apparently the steering box broke away from the frame which had rusted through and the box was floating around when trying to turn.
