I have a 1999 saturn sl. I have had some issue lately that when I turn the key it does not turn over. I do it again and it goes. I just figured I didn't have the clutch on the floor. I did not pay it any mind. Last night I was in a hurry, I went up to the c-store real quick went to turn my car off, realized I forgot my purse and quickly turned the key back on. It made a grinding sound like when you try to start it when it is already running. I lost all power immediately. I tried to start it, I got nothing. I had someone come jump me, when hooked up to his vehicle I had full power again. I tried to start it, it made the grind or growl noise and nothing. Did I fry my starter? And how much do you think it should cost to fix it? Please and thank you

The first thing I would do is make sure the battery was fully charged and tested good. You can't make any diagnoses with a bad or low charged battery. Also check your alternator to make sure it's good. Then let's see how your starter work's. Also make sure your battery cable's are clean and tight.
