Squealing coming from air conditioner pulley area-already had drive belt replaced, tensioner checked--I'm wondering if this could be only a bearing or would the pulley itself need to be replaced and how much labor do you think would be involved in the diagnostic and repair cuz I need to decide between a regular shop or an independent-no-overhead guy-? FYI I'm having trouble with the idle shooting up too, if that's helpful ( I know that may be a separate issue)Thank you!

The idle and the noise sound like seperate issues. As far as the noise, are you sure the noise if from the compresser? Does it make the noise when the AC is off?

As far as the idle, check for vacuum leaks and check the idle air control valve.
