1999 Honda Civic fuel filter

I changed my fuel filter before I released the fuel and now gas is shooting out at the top of the new filter. What can I do? Im scared I might have messed up something. Can I just take the gas cap off or can I crank up the car with the fuel coming out and remove the fuse? I really do not know what to do and I need my car fixed like yesterday. Please help me

Dont worry. Should be an easy fix. Did the fuel filter come with new banjo fitting washers? Metal washers. It leaks because its not tight enough. Tighten it more, and it will stop. As long as its not crossthreaded.
