EGR code

My check engine light came on after having an oil change and new front brake pads installed. I took it to a different shop to check the codes. I did not SEE the computer print out but the mechanic TOLD ME that it came up with a P0401 EGR code. I had my doubts that this was legit so I drove away and noticed that the light was no longer illuminated. It has been four days of driving and the light still has not come back on. If it doesn't come back on, should I assume that all is well and that the light coming on was just a fluke or result of the oil and brake change?

If it doesn't come back-no worry keep driving-like you said could be just a fluke-the oil/brake has nothing to do with exhaust gas recirculation

Thanks. That's what I thought. If it comes back on then I'll know that I should go ahead and check the EGR system. These MIL lights come on with the least provocation. I just wasn't sure that if it came on once, then the computer was cleared, that it would come on again if there was indeed a problem.
