While driving, I lost the ability to steer. My steering wheel moves, but the tires don't.

Either the pitman arm, drag link, steering gear, or there is a problem within the column. The only thing you can do is have someone turn the steering wheel while you look to see where the problem is located.

1998 Ford E-series Van Steering Wheel Play

There Seems To Be Too Much Play In The Steering Wheel. It Has Passed Inspection And Wheels Have Been Balanced.
