Yesterday I started hearing a ticking/tapping noise which goes faster/slower depending on the engine speed so I am guessing it is a lifter. I have never had any such problems before. The car always has castrol oil and is changed regularly. Last oil change I had them put in the full synthetic which I haven't used before. It is due for an oil change right now since I took the car on an out of town trip. It is actually about a 1000 over the recommended 5000 mile change. The mechanics recommended 5w20 so that has been what I have been using. Do you think this tapping could be tied to needing the oil changed? What weight do you recommend. I live in Oklahoma. This is my only vehicle, I am a single parent, so I am stressing a little over the noise. I have the usual issues with the car and right now can't locate a clip, clamp, guide whatever you call it for the passenger window. If I open the window it falls so I know one of those is broken but can't find a replacement. I had one replaced last year by someone in the drivers window but have know idea where he found one. So anyway this tapping noise is unusual for the car so it has me concerned.

It could bea lifter have apro give an opinion first. It could be a cam follower as well if it's overhead cam which would probably require a new cam and followers. An oil change wouldn't help but if yo u are using synthetic oil you are good for about 7k between changes.
