Hi there, I noticed that my oil has the faint smell of gas when I open the oil cap. There is also a noticeable amount of white looking vapor that comes out when the cap is off. The car is a 99 bmw m3, with a new engine that has about 65k miles on it. What could be the cause of this?

If the enggine is not running smoothly, you could have a misfiring cylinder due to a fault with the sparks/ignition or one of the fuel injector could be stuck and dumping fuel into the cylinder which them passes into the crankcase.

Well the car appears to be running well. The motor was replaced about 9k miles ago with a newish one that had only 60k on it. I just recently replaced the 02 sensors as well. So would the fuel injector be the better place to start looking?

Yes, you should be checking the spark plug to see if any is fouled due to excessive fuel.
