Its hard to take out of gear and into another gear.

But when the car is still not moving the gears are fine again what could be the problem? I have a polo 6n type 98 model 1.4 APQ manual petrol and its hard to take out of gear and into another gear. But when the car is still not moving the gears are fine again what could be the problem?

Sounds like a clutch issue. Check and make sure it has enough free play.

If not, it will have to be replaced

I dont under stand wont you mean by free play. I have to press my clutch pedal all the way down and still very hard to shift out of gear. I went to a mechanic he told me it was the shift mechanism but he didnt try my car or anything. I think its the clutch.

I agree, thats why I told you to have the free play checked first. Go to another shop as the first guy did not help you at all.
