How do I test the distributor?

I need to know how to test the distributor because I have no spark and working on car for customer and he needs his car back but doesn’t want to buy a new distributor if he does not have to so we traced it to no spark

There are no actual way of testing distributors. Measuring the various pickup coils etc are all you can do. Is the ignition coil good?
If you have a replacement distributor ready, you need no tinstall onto engine. Just plug it into the socket and ground the distributor and manually crank the rotor. If it provides sparks it is good.
I would do this than go over the hassle of testing the distributor.
