Automatic head lights

1998 oldmobile intrigue my head lights will not come on while in automatic state. When I turn them on manually they stay on till I turn them off manually. I covered the little sensor with a hat in teh day time and the day time running lights and all other lights went out, but DRL came back on when I uncovered it.

Sounds like the sensor or headlamp auto positon is bad I will look up test proceedure and post for you.

OK unfortunatly not a lot of info on this on, it should have a stored B or U code, neither of which will turn on any warning light. A scan with a tool capable of reading B or U codes is required at this point.
