Hello there, thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question! I have a 1998 Mercury Mystique with a 2.0L DOHC Zetec engine (same as Ford Contour). I'm going to install a used PCM/ECM from a wrecker (as it's discontinued from Ford) with the exact same part number so all the software will the be same. The vehicle is a base model without the Ford PATS key system. My question is can I just install the new-used PCM and go or do I have to have it done at the dealer and coded to the vehicle to make the car run. I have different people telling me different answers on this one. Thanks again, John.

No, it needs to be programmed first. I would strongly advise against a used PCM. There are plenty of rebuilders out there.
