How hard is it to remove the motor in a 1998 hyundai elantra (1.8)? Do I need to remove the transmission to get it out too?

The transmission is joined to the engine so obviously it has to be removed from the engine. You can usually have enough room to leave the trans in the car when you pull the motor if it's an automatic. A manual usually comes out in one piece because you don't have room to separate them.
