Interior hood latch

My plastic interior hood latch on my 1998 civic, just broke off into my hand when I went to pull up on it. The metal shaft still has most of the plastic around it however the flat plastic part that you pull up on snapped off. Is the plastic normally glued on the metal or threaded on? Either way how can I fix this?

You can just rip all the plastic off until you see the cable. You can then use pliers to pull on the cable. This will pop the hood open.

To permanently fix your problem, you will need to replace the whole cable assembly.
