I have a 1998 GMC Serria, it ran fine this morining, went to crank it up tonite, wouldnt start seemed like the battery was dead it would turn over but seemed like it would catch for a second then nothing. I tried jump starting it but the same thing. I checked and found the dist. Loose could it have jumped time and caused this?

Try turning distributor while someone cranks over.

No, I have to disagree here. I do not advise turning the distributor. The ignition timing is not adjustable on this engine and turning the distributor will throw the distributor Cam signal offset off and it will require a Tech2 scan tool to get it correct again.

The first thing you want to check is the fuel pressure. That is the #1 cause of no starts on that vehicle. This engine reguires a minimum of 55 PSI to run.

I was assuming it had already turned far enough(loose) to throw off the correct cylinder firing order.

Here are the alignment marks if necessary to get it close to start. It will take a scan tool to get it right.
Remember, it's not the timing that changes here. It's the synchronization of everything that is lost.
