Sounds like it may be a shift cable adjustment. Place your gear selector in neutral. Get under vehicle, and on driverside of transmission, loosen the cable adjusting nut. Verify the trans is in neutral by rotating the linkage on the transmission clockwise, till it stops-this is park. Now rotate it counter clockwise 2 clicks, this is neutral. Tighten the adjustment nut. See if this helps.
