I am looking at buying a 1998 carao v6, the seller says that it needs a timing chain and that it has spun a front main bearing out. What is a ballpark estimate to have a shop repair these?

With a timing chain requiring replacement and a spun main bearing, the engine needs a rebuild and you should be looking at a figure of more than 2k. Get an estimate locally as prices varies region to region.
