interior floor keeps getting wet, could it be the heater core and how can I check it

Which part of the floor? If the car came with air conditioning there will be a drain pan under it. If the heater core is leaking the coolant should be dripping onto the ground behind and to the left of the right front tire. That drain is likely blocked. That will make coolant or water drip onto the passenger side front floor.
