My VW Polo 1997 1.L seems to misfire when I accelerate. It seems to drive okay for a bit if you don't accelerate to hard but otherwise its sputters along the road. The plugs were changed out recently and the distribution cap checked. The car seemed to be running very fuel rich having checked the exhaust, so we changed out the lamda sensor to see if this was causing a problem.
On a separate note the car also will not start in the morning, you have to keep pumping the acceletor to get it to start - not sure if this is related. Have you any ideas?

Could be one of the following below -check and test:

Oxygen sensors.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard.
