Timing cover installation cant get cover on evenly

Guides are not touching and not the oil pan isnt either whats the hub bub? i have tried tapping it with a hammer onto the engine shaft its close but should i rotate the engine a certain way for the oil pump

All you do is get the cover close to being on then take a small flat blade screw driver.You line up the flats of the oil pump with the flats of the crank sprocket.You should never have tap it with a hammer to get the oil pump to slide over the crankshaft sprocket.If you do the oil pump is not lined up with the crankshaft sprocket and you will break the front cover.
