Fan not turning on but when ac is on fan runs

Are you talking about the radiator fan? Is the engine overheating? What is the engine temp in degrees F on a warmed engine?

Check for applicable trouble codes, some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free. I just want too see if anything points at the coolant temp sensor?
