1997 Pontiac Sunfire gas smell

Extremely strong smell of gas while driving and for a very long time after parking inside and outside of car. Have seen any signs of gas leaking however my mileage is very poor. We just did an oil change, replaced spark plugs and changed the fuel filter which made no difference to the smell however the car seems to be running worse than before

With the engine running, check the entire fuel system for leaks. (From the injectors, underhood to the fuel tank).
If you have the 4-cylinder engine, be sure to pay close attention to the injectors [the area where they so into the intake manifold---they leak there sometimes).

Pay close attention to the fuel lines underhood also (there are parts of them that are plastic).
