Some soot would be normal. An excessive amount coupled with black smoke would indicate and over rich mixture for some reason.

And are you able to help with these ether ploblems too I have a list of them

i have a 97 plymouth breeze auto 2.4L
first thing: if I have the car running for a little bit even just 2 go 2-3 km up the road and I open the hood the hood proper that holds the hood up is so hot it can almost burns my hand but my heat gauge in the car runs under half and it doesnt over heat?

Second thing:when you are standing at the back of a car and the exhaust is quite well mine has a weird sound coming out of it. It almost sounds like a diesal engine coming out of the pipe and it has a farly new exhaust on it and like I said the exhaust and muffler is like new and when I bought the car 4 mouths ago in side the tail pipe was nice and clean and now it is pure black like I mean pure black?

Third thing:when the tank is full I dont smell gas but when it is around 1/2 to a 1/4 tank is smell gas and my tank is not lecking and my gas lines are new? Please give me some pointers to fix my problems?

Forth thng: it is very slugish at the take off like it wont even chirp the tires but when I get upto any where from 45km to 60km it picks up good?

Final thing: it burns alot of gas for a 4 cylinder it cost 75-85 to fill my tank and I get 400-500km a tank?
