1997 Peugeot 406 My car does not Idle

Hi, when I start the, it starts. The Idling is not stable. It stops at the traffic light just when the ''check engine lights come on. What may be the problem. May be air leak? Etc.

My Mechanics could not dictate this problem.

First thing is to have your vehicles' computer codes read to determine what type of problem you're dealing with. Once you have the codes post them here if you need more assistance.

In the meantime,
Have the mechanic to check for vacuum leaks. He can use carb/throttle cleaner to spray (just a little) around the ends of each vacuum hose. If there is a leak the engine will idle properly for a while as it sucks in the carb/throttle cleaner.

He should also check the fuel pressure and for any loose connections at the spark plugs.
