1997 Land Rover Other starter motor

Hi I have a 1997 range rover that has smashed 2 strtemotors but flywheel and ring gear are ok it is cracking the top casing of the starter and damaging the teeth in the starter do you hsve any idea what might be casung this to. Happen many thanks jonathan

You want to look for ignition that is crossfiring or firing early. Verify timing (if adjustable). Look for any way the ignition can crossfire like crossed wires, cracked distributor cap (if equipped), etc.
