I have a strange noise that just started comming from my car when I put it in park. Sounds like a whizzing. The keys dont have to be in and the car doesnt have to be on. All I do is push my gear shifter forward. Already in park. Just push forward into park some more and it makes whizzing noise. Can repeat as many times as I want does not change. This problem does not happen in any other gears can you tell me what this could be?

Is the transmission actually selecting park and holding the park locked position?

I have the same problem on my 1998 escort zx2. I can't figure it out. It does go in park and stays in park. The noise lasts for about 8 seconds.
