First thing you need to do is have the codes read, Autozone does it free, Post the results with the code number(s). Even if the service engine light is not on, there should be freeze frame data stored.
If it won't make it to Autozone, buy a cheap scanner, they can be had for 30-40 dollars, a good investment, since they cover all cars sold in the USA from 96 on...
If the light is blinking, it means engine misfires possible damage to the Catalytic converter...service it right away!

Hey I had the same problem. I would put the pedal down and it would just die. But it would be fine under light to med. Throttle input. First off change your fuel filter. And make sure it is installed the right way. Mine was put on backwards but the last owner. Tho I replaced the fuel pump due to low fuel pressure. Thats how I found out about the filter. So change filter. Then have you pressure checked if the filter doesn't work. I did my one check. I rented a kit from autozone and they gave me my money back. You fuel pressure at the fuel rail check valve should be 60-66 psi. If it's in the 50's after the filter change. I would lean towards fuel pump. Now my tahoe freakin cooks past anything on the highway. Trust me I tested it very well. I also did plugs (ac delcos) wires, coil (made a big difference) and cap and rotor. She runs perfect. And I have 172000 on it. Hope that helps.
