Check engine light flashed

My 1997 3.4 liter chevy monte carlo would crank but not start and now it starts and the check engine light flashed and now stays on. What is wrong?

You need to have the computer scanned to identify why the light is on. It will provide an trouble code and that will identify where the problem is coming from. Many parts stores will do it for free.
