1997 park avenue starts well, engages the transmission without hesitation. But will only go for a short distance before the car stops. After setting for awhile, the same thing. Car starts, transmission engages forward or in reverse, but will only go a few feet. Pressure sensor?

Does the engine continue to run and the trans stop working, or does the engine die? If it is the transmission, it sounds like you are losing trans pressure. Make sure the trans fluid is full and clean. If the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned to see if there are any trans codes or engine codes. If the engine shuts down, do the same with the check engine light to check for trouble codes. Most parts stores can check engine codes for free. THe trans is different. They don't have the correct type of scanner. If it is engine related with no check engine light, check fuel pump pressure.
