Wen I was on the highway my car (manual) just started lurching whenever I would either step on the gas or let off of it. But when I got the car over 85 it would stop for a bit. Then the check engine light turned on after this jab been going on for about a half an hour.
I then shut if off for about an hour and when I started to drive it, every time I would put it in neutral at a stoplight the engine would rev to about 4000 then back and forth to 1000 until I started driving again. The lurching continued even at low speeds such as 35.
I then turned it off for about 2 hours and the engine got cold and the check engine light was off and the symptoms stopped.
That's where I'm at now!
If someone could help that would be great!

What engine size? Engine code (AEB, AHA etc)?

Always start by doing an OBD scan. A fault code that is stored in the ECM Memory might be of help.

1997 should have a throttle cable, so I don't think it will be throttle related. But I could be wrong.

Post the above info and we might be able to help further.
