1996 Toyota Avalon V6 mileage: 104,500. The engine light in my car went on and the car began shaking. I brought it to a mechanic who found a dead spark plug. He replaced the spark plug and everything seemed fine. One week later the engine light went on with the same symptoms. Any ideas what may be causing the spark plug to burn out? Any ideas as to what may be wrong?

Check the spark plug wires as they may be breaking down. Also, check the "dead" plug to see if it is oil fouled due to leaky valve stem seals or possibly piston rings.

On my 1996 Avalon I noticed that one time the car started and the MIL light came and it stumbled at idle and died. I checked and there was no codes and the problem didn't come back. I believe it may have been due to a intermittent sticking open EGR valve which makes sense. This happened a month ago and has not come back.
