Will a 96 Marquis ECM/computer work in a 99 Marquis?

I have a 99 grand marquis motor in my expedition(i did a 5.4 to 4.6 swap) and I was told too change the ecm cause its smoking real bad and the car was crushed and I was wondering would a 96 marquis ecm work?

It might but your wiring probably changed as well a what hooks up to what. I wouldn't suggest it besides it needs to be the same engine/trans. Etc. I may damage other components
