What is the most common cause of the starter not engaging on a 96 Tracker.

The battery is fine. Occasionally the starter will engage and when it does it starts just fine.

COULD BE A BAD STARTER....IT CAN BE REMOVED INSPECTED AND TESTED AT A POPULAR AUTO PARTS STORE...USUALLY FOR FREE

If you hear a clicking noise, it usually is the starter that is faulty.

If no clicking, apart from starter, the ignition switch, security system, neutral start switch and wiring can cause the problem.
